Highpoint Equine offers routine and referral dental services, working in partnership with your primary veterinarian to ensure seamless continuity of care.

Oral Exams and Floating
A comprehensive oral exam is the foundation of every dental visit. Using specialized equipment, we carefully evaluate each tooth, the soft tissues, and the overall function of the mouth to identify concerns early. When indicated, odontoplasty (“floating”) corrects imbalances and smooths enamel points, supporting long-term oral health, comfort, and performance.

Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal disease is inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth. It often occurs when feed becomes lodged between teeth and begins to decay, leading to irritation and inflammation. If left untreated, this can progress to painful infection, difficulty eating, and long-term tooth loss. We provide treatment and ongoing management to address periodontal disease and help preserve your horse’s teeth for as long as possible.

Tooth Extraction
Tooth extraction is sometimes necessary when teeth are diseased or damaged. After a thorough exam, radiographs (x-rays) are taken and reviewed with owners to determine the best course of action. Extractions can sometimes be performed at the farm, but in certain cases, transporting the horse to a specialized facility is recommended. All decisions are made collaboratively to ensure the safest and most effective care for your horse.

Radiography & Endoscopy
Oral radiography (x-rays) and endoscopy allow us to see beyond what’s visible during a routine exam. A rigid oral endoscope displays detailed images of the teeth on a screen in real time so owners can see findings as they are identified, while radiographs evaluate tooth roots, bone, and surrounding structures. Together, these tools help detect fractures, infections, and other hidden abnormalities, guiding accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
