About Me

 Meet Dr. Kaitlin Soave

I’m Dr. Kaitlin Soave, and my journey with horses has been a lifelong passion. I grew up just outside of Chicago and went on to attend Michigan State University for both my undergraduate studies and veterinary school. After graduating, I spent eight years in equine general practice in West Michigan, where I cared for horses across a wide range of needs.

During that time, I discovered a special passion for equine dentistry. I pursued advanced continuing education in this field and came to realize how essential — yet often misunderstood — dental care is for a horse’s health, comfort, and performance. Today, I’m thrilled to focus my career exclusively on equine dentistry, bringing both expertise and clear communication to an area that can feel overwhelming for many owners.

My goal is to make equine dentistry approachable, educational, and supportive — so that together, we can help horses live healthier, happier lives.

Oral Exams and Floating

A comprehensive oral exam is the foundation of every dental visit. Using specialized equipment, we carefully evaluate each tooth, the soft tissues, and the overall function of the mouth to identify concerns early. When indicated, odontoplasty (“floating”) corrects imbalances and smooths enamel points, supporting long-term oral health, comfort, and performance.

Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal disease is inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth. It often occurs when feed becomes lodged between teeth and begins to decay, leading to irritation and inflammation. If left untreated, this can progress to painful infection, difficulty eating, and long-term tooth loss. We provide treatment and ongoing management to address periodontal disease and help preserve your horse’s teeth for as long as possible.

Intraoral Tooth Extractions

Tooth extraction is sometimes necessary when teeth are diseased or damaged. After a thorough exam, radiographs (x-rays) are taken and reviewed with owners to determine the best course of action. Extractions can sometimes be performed on-site, but in certain cases, transporting the horse to a specialized facility is recommended. All decisions are made collaboratively to ensure the safest and most effective care for your horse.
